Lighting design pack for commercial, sports and industrial sites

ALL LED Direct designs lighting for commercial, industrial and sports sites across Australia, then supplies and installs the fittings. The design pack covers the layout, aiming, a luminaire schedule, and an emergency and exit schedule where the building needs one, so the install follows the drawing.

Plans, photos or a rough brief is plenty to start with. Talk to us at info@alledirect.com.

Interiors are designed against AS/NZS 1680. Emergency lighting and exit signs are design-assisted against NCC Part E4 and AS/NZS 2293. Sports lighting follows AS 2560, and outdoor spill and glare follow AS/NZS 4282.

It's a design-assist pack. A competent person must verify and certify the design, and the pack isn't an occupancy certificate on its own.

What you get

A set of working documents, not a brochure or a certified plot:

  • Brief restatement: what you asked for, the must-haves and nice-to-haves, and any open questions holding up the layout.
  • Space schedule: each room or zone with its name, size, use and the maintained illuminance we're designing to. Your brief overrides any typical starting point.
  • Luminaire schedule: fittings, quantities and mounting. If we offer an equivalent to a specified fitting, we say so.
  • Layout on your drawing: an overlay on the architect's or engineer's sheet, with spacing and indicative lux from photometry. It isn't a certified lighting calculation.
  • Emergency and exit schedule: where NCC E4 and AS/NZS 2293 apply, the escape-path luminaires and exit signs, kept separate from the general lighting.
  • Compliance checklist: NCC E4, AS/NZS 2293, AS/NZS 1680 and AS 2560 as they apply to the site. A checklist, not a certificate.
  • Assumptions and exclusions: what we took as given and what's not included. We don't do the wiring design.
  • What we still need: the files or answers needed to finish the overlay.

Supply and install are quoted from the pack when you ask.

AS/NZS 1680: interiors and task lighting

AS/NZS 1680 is the interior lighting standard most commercial briefs name. It covers maintained illuminance, uniformity and glare for the task, whether that's a warehouse floor, an office desk, a plant room or amenities.

Your written brief always wins. If it doesn't set levels, we start from common AS/NZS 1680-style bands and say so in the pack:

  • Offices around 320 lx, meeting rooms around 240 lx
  • Stairs, toilets and cleaners' rooms around 80 lx
  • Storage around 80 lx (about 160 lx vertical at the rack face for picking)
  • Reception and lobby around 160 lx

Fitting choice follows the task, and warehouse aisle optics aren't the same as an open-bay shed. See warehouse and industrial LED lighting for those sites.

NCC E4 and AS/NZS 2293: emergency and exit

NCC Volume One Part E4 covers emergency lighting, exit signs and warning systems, and AS/NZS 2293 is the standard those systems are usually designed against. Where the building class needs it, the pack includes a separate emergency and exit schedule, design-assisted to figures like these (a competent person verifies):

  • Escape path at least 0.2 lx on the centreline and at least 0.5 lx average, with uniformity no worse than 40:1
  • Stairs at least 1 lx on each step and landing
  • Emergency lighting on within seconds and lasting at least 90 minutes
  • Exit signs about 2.0 to 2.7 m above finished floor, or immediately above a taller door
  • A luminaire close to exits and changes of direction

We need the exits, stairs and changes of direction on the drawing before we place emergency fittings, and we'll ask if they're missing. If you already know the fitting family, browse exit and emergency fittings.

Sports, outdoor and mining

Sports ovals, fields and local stadiums are designed to your brief or to AS 2560, with AS/NZS 4282 spill control. See sports ground and stadium LED lighting.

Street and car park poles are specified with the luminaire as one package. See lighting poles and car park lighting. Public road lighting follows AS/NZS 1158 when that's in the brief.

For coastal wildlife sites we use a 585 nm peak fitting, shielded and aimed, rather than warm white. See turtle-friendly lighting.

Mine-site lighting is on our mining lighting hub. Hazardous areas need certified fittings, so a standard mining work light isn't suitable for a Zone 1 brief.

What helps us start

The more of this you have, the less we need to guess:

  • Site, suburb, and state or territory
  • NCC building class if you know it (or "sports or outdoor, no class")
  • Every room or zone: name, length × width and use
  • A drawing with a scale bar or labelled dimension (PDF or CAD)
  • Ceiling or mounting height for every lit zone
  • Exits, stairs and changes of direction, if emergency lighting applies
  • Target lux or a written brief (your number wins)
  • Existing or specified fittings, if any
  • Controls (DALI, sensors, none, unsure)
  • Supply only, or supply and install
  • Timing (tender, occupancy or planning only)

Incomplete briefs are fine. We'll reply with a list of what's still missing.

How it works

  1. You share the site, how it’s used and the drawing with us at info@alledirect.com.
  2. We reply with questions and anything blocking the layout, and confirm supply only or install.
  3. We prepare the pack once the brief is ready.
  4. Supply and install are quoted from the pack when you want fittings on site.

Design, supply and install

  • Supply only: the pack plus fittings, installed by your electrician or contractor.
  • Full package: the pack, fittings and install. We do the DALI programming and commissioning ourselves and work with licensed electricians on site.

DALI-2 grouping, dimming and scenes are designed in when the floor needs control. See DALI lighting control. If a specified luminaire is hard to get or discontinued, we can offer an equivalent. See alternative lighting to specified.

FAQ

What is in a lighting design pack?

A brief restatement, space schedule, luminaire schedule, layout on your drawing, emergency and exit schedule where it applies, compliance checklist, assumptions, and the next files we need. Email info@alledirect.com to start.

Which standards do you design to?

AS/NZS 1680 for interiors, NCC E4 and AS/NZS 2293 for emergency lighting and exit signs, AS 2560 for sports, AS/NZS 4282 for outdoor spill and glare, and AS/NZS 1158 for public lighting. Your written brief overrides any default.

Is this a certified design or an occupancy-certificate pack?

No, it's design-assist. A competent person must verify and certify the design.

Do you do emergency lighting and exit signs?

Yes, as a separate schedule where NCC E4 and AS/NZS 2293 apply. We need the exits, stairs and changes of direction on the drawing.

Can you supply the fittings and install as well?

Yes. We handle the DALI programming and commissioning, and licensed electricians do the on-site work.

Do you provide certified lux plots?

No. Layouts show indicative lux from photometry on your drawing, and a competent person verifies and certifies.

Is this the page for sports ovals or mine sites?

No, they have their own pages: sports ground and stadium LED lighting, and the mining lighting hub. This design pack can feed either job.
