Car park lighting design, supply and install
A badly lit car park means glare in drivers' eyes, black spots between bays and neighbours complaining about light in their bedrooms. ALL LED Direct designs, supplies and installs car park lighting for Australian sites: shopping centres, offices, industrial estates, schools, clubs, councils and body corporates.
We can do the lot (layout, LED fittings, poles and install) or just the part you need. We've got our own electricians who travel to site, or we can work with your local electrician.
Designing to AS/NZS 1158.3.1
Outdoor car parks in Australia are usually designed to AS/NZS 1158.3.1, the standard for pedestrian area (Category P) lighting. It covers outdoor off-road car parks, including rooftops, and sorts them into subcategories PC1, PC2 and PC3 based on how busy they are at night and the level of concern about crime. Accessible parking (PCD) and areas where pedestrians cross the circulation roadways (PCX) are treated separately.
Your council, DA or tenancy requirements often name the subcategory already, so send it if you've got it. If not, we'll recommend one for you or your consultant to confirm. Covered and multi-storey car parks are generally treated as interior spaces, so tell us if any part is undercover.
Our lighting design pack sets out the layout, luminaire schedule and assumptions so your electrician or certifier can check it before anything goes up. It's design-assist work: a competent person must verify and certify the final design.
Poles and fittings
Most open car parks are lit from poles. We supply stainless steel, galvanised and painted poles made to order by our local manufacturing partner, with the height and outreach matched to the fitting and layout, plus rag bolts if you need them. See lighting poles.
On top, car parks usually run LED area or street-style fittings, with floodlights where you need to cover more ground from fewer positions or from a building edge. Browse street and area lights and LED floodlights. Our own-range fittings are made to order with our manufacturing partners and quoted for the job.
Street and area fittings from our range. Product photos, not site photos. Quoted per site.
Already got poles? If they're sound, we can often reuse them and swap the old heads for LED. Send photos and the pole height and we'll tell you what fits.
Spill, glare and neighbours
If your approval mentions spill limits, curfews or neighbour complaints, put it in the brief and we'll design around it from the start.
Controls and running costs
Photocells, timers, motion sensors or a lighting control system mean the car park isn't burning full power at 3 am when nobody's there. If you want dimming, check it with the designer first so your subcategory's minimum levels are still met. For buildings already on DALI, see DALI lighting control.
For upgrade savings, send the existing wattage, number of fittings and run hours and we'll work it out from your numbers, not a headline percentage.
Supply only or supply and install
- Supply only: we design (if you need it) and supply the fittings and poles, and your electrical contractor installs.
- Supply and install: one job, start to finish, by our electricians or yours.
If a council or government brief asks for Indigenous supplier participation, mention it in your email.
